landing

I recently landed in Switzerland. Here to visit my dear mother. I feel as though my head is spinning a little... the time adjustment always throws me off drastically. It is not just a time adjustment it always seems to be a physical one as well. Time adjustments like these always remind me of how affected we are by the sun and the moon. I imagine this connection is much more apparent in women due to the menstrual cycle.

Jet-lag is a bit like have the "time-rug" ripped out from under the feet, falling, and then it being somewhat difficult to get back up.

Traveling in Europe always seems to bring up some sort of familial interest or déjá vu of faces for me.

As an american mix of mostly European ancestry I tend to search faces for familiarity in the countries from which I have blood. Switzerland is not one of them and I don't seem to get that sense here. So my fascination with faces takes on a completely different type of curiosity. The curiosity of what these faces must have looked like during renaissance times or the dark ages.

Now that the age of commercialism is so overwhelming in EVERY aspect our lives it sometimes makes it a bit difficult to see through it all and to imagine how people of earlier times behaved.

Living in the US where most people of European descent have abandoned most of their cultural heritage, cultural societies and homogenized societies always fascinate me. Probably the same way some Europeans are fascinated by the mix of cultures or CLASH of cultures we have in the US.
